Free submittal log template

Track every submittal on the job: spec section, number and revision, type, dates, review status and days in review. It runs in your browser, prints cleanly, and exports a CSV you can open in Excel or Google Sheets.

Spec section Submittal no. Rev Description Type Submitted Returned Status Days Remove

Saved automatically in this browser only. Nothing is uploaded. "Days" counts from the submitted date to the returned date, or to today while it's under review.

How to build your log

  1. Go through each spec section in your scope and list every item in its Part 1 "Submittals" articles: action, informational and closeout. See how to read a spec book.
  2. Number each one by spec section, sequence and revision (for example 224213-001.0).
  3. Put long-lead items first so procurement isn't held up.
  4. Update the status as each package comes back. Our guide to review stamps explains each response.
  5. When something comes back for revision, add a new row with the next revision number so the history stays visible.

Frequently asked questions

What is a submittal log?

A submittal log (or submittal register) lists every submittal the specifications require, with its spec section, number, revision, type, responsible party, dates and review status. It's how the GC and subcontractors see what's outstanding and what's holding up procurement.

Where does the list of required submittals come from?

From each spec section's Part 1 'Submittals' articles, plus Division 01's Submittal Procedures section. Our guide on how to read a spec book shows where each requirement is.

Is my data saved?

The log is saved in this browser on this device only, so it's still there when you come back. Nothing is uploaded. Download a CSV regularly to keep a copy or share it.

Can I open the CSV in Excel?

Yes. The download is a standard CSV file that opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers, with one row per submittal.

Rather we build and run the log for you?

We read your spec book, build the complete submittal register, and prepare the packages that fill it.
